BOAT ROCKER STUDIOS GREENLIGHTS THREE UNSCRIPTED ORIGINALS
The company will launch the new projects at MIPCOM, including "Cities of Mass Construction," which is currently in production
TORONTO, ON – September 29, 2026 – Boat Rocker Studios, the award-winning independent entertainment company, has greenlit three new unscripted original series, reflecting the company’s strategic focus on investing in IP ownership. The fully financed series are being developed in-house as part of the company’s new Unscripted Content slate, which is led by Natalie Vinet, SVP, Global Sales & Content, Unscripted and Joey Case, Senior Director, Creative Affairs, Unscripted.
"There is consistently strong global demand for unscripted series about historical enigmas, undiscovered societies and engineering triumphs. Boat Rocker is committed to financing the development and production of content that we believe in, and that we know will be watched by global audiences," said Jon Rutherford, President, Global Content & Sales. "We're excited to launch these new series at MIPCOM."
Cities of Mass Construction (8 x 60') is currently in production in Toronto. The series explores the birth stories of 16 cities, including London, New York, Rome, Hong Kong, Paris, and Istanbul. These cities didn’t appear out of nowhere – they were built, brick by brick and tower by tower; fuelled by the blood and sweat of millions, across hundreds of years of societal change and structural transformation. Cities of Mass Construction uses striking CGI and 3D visual effects to tear back the layers of these modern masterpieces to reveal their humble beginnings, the development of their revolutionary infrastructure, and the unbelievable human stories that helped build them into what they are today.
The series is written by Phillip Daniels (Underground Railroad: The Secret History), Craig Colby (The Mightiest), Denis Seguin (History in the Making), and Christopher Nelson (Dragon’s Den). It is produced by Daniels, with Boat Rocker Studios' co-founders Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier (All Heart: A Rugby Story) executive producing, alongside Rutherford (Cursed Bloodlines) and Case (How Did They Fix That?).
Also in pre-production are Empires: Lost & Found (8x60'), a series that uncovers the secrets of ancient empires – their lost cities, buried treasures, and mysterious structures; and Treasures: Lost & Found (w/t) (8 x 60'), which will showcase stories of how ancient artifacts were stolen, the ways they were smuggled away, and how defenders of ancient artifacts have created wide-net sting operations to ensnare thieves and black market brokers and ultimately recover these priceless treasures.
