BOAT ROCKER STUDIOS UNVEILS DYNAMIC NEW SLATE AHEAD OF MIPCOM
The global studio will present new acquisitions and partnerships across its Scripted, Unscripted and Kids & Family catalogues.
TORONTO, ON – October 9, 2026 – Boat Rocker Studios, the award-winning independent global entertainment company, has announced a dynamic slate of titles to present to buyers at MIPCOM.
Boat Rocker’s expansive global distribution slate includes more than 100 titles with universal appeal, across all genres. New Scripted acquisitions include the comedy-drama Unconventional, and Season Two of the psychological thriller Last Second. On the Unscripted front, new titles span Competition, Wildlife, Adventure, and True Crime including, The Carve Off, Hidden Animal World, Secrets From Space, Deadliest Dinners: Australia, A World Without Koalas and Doula: A True Crime. Rounding out the slate are new Kids’ offerings including the animated adventures The Sunnyridge 3 and Boat Rocker’s newly announced self-financed animated series Nano Runners.
Blending humour and heartfelt storytelling, Unconventional (9 x 30') follows two eccentric, queer siblings and their significant others as they try to start an unconventional family while navigating adulthood, portraying the complexities of queer life with authenticity and irreverence. It is produced by Cold Iron Pictures, The Film Arcade, and The Money Pool.
Produced by Montreal-based Duo Productions and presented by Boat Rocker Studios, a new season of Last Second (S2 10 x 60') dives into the tense and complex world of police bomb technicians – one of whom, Véronique, finds herself at the centre of a serious explosion during what she thought was a routine operation. Though scarred and shaken, Véronique will risk everything to bring a ruthless criminal to justice.
These new titles join Boat Rocker’s existing slate of premium scripted content, including Nordic-noir Blood & Sweat (8 x 60'), which Boat Rocker will officially launch at the market, as well as Netflix's Bet (10 x 30') and Geek Girl (10 x 30'), which will both be available for second-window distribution in early 2027.
Turning to its robust unscripted catalogue, Boat Rocker will present The Carve Off (13 x 60'), a new unscripted competition series produced by Bluewater Entertainment, that follows 12 elite chainsaw artists as they battle head-to-head, racing the clock to transform raw logs into jaw-dropping art. This highly competitive series is built around escalating stakes and comeback opportunities, and blends team relays with head-to-head competition to build rivalry and tension.
Hidden Animal World (13 x 30') from Steve Rotfeld Productions is a unique and visually stunning viewing experience. The animal kingdom is full of creatures living secretive and often mysterious lives. Hidden away in their wild environments, they go about their days performing unusual and surprising activities far from the view of human eyes. This series provides a unique glimpse into their extraordinary existence.
Expanding Shark Teeth’s hugely popular “Secrets” franchise, Secrets From Space (8 x 60') goes to possibly the most far-flung, inhospitable place yet – space – to seek out extraordinary stories. Examining discoveries from beyond Earth, its remarkable finds include a meteorite that predates the planet, an asteroid that was caught on camera while crashing to Earth and a space probe that returned with one of the key ingredients for life.
Deadliest Dinners: Australia (8 x 60’) from Foxtel follows celebrated chef Mario Kalpou as he travels across the continent’s most unforgiving landscapes in search of the wildest ingredients. Only after he's faced down the danger and secured his catch does the reward arrive: Mario cooks an incredible meal, right there in the wild. This is a series about earning your dinner and rediscovering the connection between people and the wild.
A World Without Koalas (1 x 60') from 57 Films follows the extraordinarily devoted conservationists who are on a last-ditch mission to save the koala from extinction. After some of the world’s most destructive bushfires devastated the species, the koala is clinging to a very thin branch. Dedicated conservationists are aiming to capture the strongest of this iconic species before it’s too late, to enable them to survive.
Doula: A True Crime (3 x 60') tells the remarkable true story of Kaitlyn Braun who contacted more than 40 doulas on social media claiming she was pregnant with a stillborn child after a sexual assault. The doulas wholeheartedly rallied to support her – some even moved into her home – yet her story soon began to unravel. What followed was a shocking saga involving a social media campaign, criminal charges, and questions about the limits of empathy. With unparalleled access to all sides of the story, the docuseries from Muse Entertainment takes an inside look at this complex real-life saga.
These acquired titles add to a robust unscripted offering from Boat Rocker, including the previously announced Cities of Mass Construction (8 x 60’) and All Heart: A Rugby Story (4 x 40’), both of which are produced in-house.
On the Kids & Family side, The Sunnyridge 3 (22 x 22') blends comedy, mystery, horror, adventure, and fantasy into a hilarious animated series for kids. Rose, Jeru, and Wayne are best friends who practically grew up at the Sunnyridge shopping centre. In this unpredictable genre-bending mashup, the trio investigates the strange goings-on at their mall and discovers that the truth is always stranger than fiction. From creators Stevie Gee and Essy May, the series is produced by Blink Industries and Boat Rocker Studios.
The series joins Boat Rocker's internationally successful Kids & Family portfolio, which includes the newly announced animated series from Boat Rocker Studios and Industrial Brothers, Nano Runners (26 x 11’) and Harlo (52 x 11'); as well as Dino Ranch: Island Explorers (52 x 11') and live-action tween drama The Next Step: Cheer (20 x 30'), both of which were recently renewed for second seasons.
Mellany Welsh, SVP, Global Head of Distribution & Brands, said: “These new acquisitions and partnerships further strengthen our robust slate, and we’re excited to introduce them to buyers from around the world. From extraordinary true stories, and gripping and emotionally engaging drama to unique and inspiring kids’ series, our Scripted, Unscripted, and Kids titles offer something for every audience, with compelling stories and distinctive voices that we believe will resonate globally."
